Summertime Fun

So, with preschool having just ended and summer looming ahead, not to mention two little girls to entertain with a third making her appearance soon, I need some ideas. I want to do either an activity jar, with ideas we can draw from each day, or whenever the girls are really bored, or I want to do theme weeks, where we have a theme and do something different every day of the week that pertains to the theme.

Since we'll have a new baby for most of the summer I need ideas for things we can do at home. I have a few so far:

Homemade ice cream
Build a fort with the couch and blankets
make cereal necklaces
bubble day (blowing bubbles, making solution)
tea party
make homemade instruments and have a band
run through the sprinklers
sidwalk chalk
paint rocks like animals
make rock candy
water balloons
no sand sandbox (this is for indoor, you get a big tub and fill with rice or oatmeal and let the kiddos play in it)

for theme weeks, there's:

science week
bug week
bubble week
water week
baking week

and we would do something different every day that had to do with the theme.

I just don't want the girls to get too bored this summer and while we may not do something every day I'd like to have some ideas on hand, especially cause I know they're gonna get a little bored of being home so much. I don't think I'll be too excited about going out a bunch at least not for a little while. So, I'm asking for help from all you creative women, whenever you have the time, Please feel free to leave ideas, I'd love to hear them all!

Great Ideas! I have been having the same thoughts in my head of having lots of ideas. Target has some great stuff in their dollar bins right now for crafts like sand bracelets and that kind of stuff. You could have a nail painting day. Hailee loves that. Or a movie afternoon, we use our projector and put it on a big wall and pop popcorn and get Movie type treats and all watch it together.
There is always homemade playdough (I have an edible recipe)
We made cute jelly belly necklaces. you get jelly bellies and strechy thread and make your own candy necklaces.
That is all I have right now I will let you know what I think of...

For the science week, you could take a day and learn about Penguins. Tyler did a science project at home all about penguins that was alot of fun. We froze and iceberg in the freezer. We checked on the water periodically and discussed what was happening. Then, when it was completely frozen, we put it in the tub and Tyler could play with it with little penguin toys. We also placed an ice cube in Ty's hand and talked about how cold it feels. Then we put a feather on Ty's hand, placed an ice cube on top and talked about which was warmer and how penguins feathers keep them warm. I kept the bag so if you are interested in some of the other things we did let me know cause this comment is all ready too long. :)

Fun ideas April! I'll have to borrow some of those ideas. I'm always looking for things to do with the girls. One idea I have is to buy a HUGE waterslide and put it in your backyard. ;) Any luck with finding one in your price range? And another idea I have is to sned them to Aunt Jamie's house to play!! :) Espcially when little Lexie comes...if you ever need a little break I am just up the road. Savannah & Kylie LOVE to play with your girls!!

I don't have any good ideas, but I will probably steal some of yours. Except I might have to wait awhile. We are going to spend the majority of our summer at the pool.

Wow, looks like you have lots of ideas, and with your creaitve (insert subliminal message: send them to see brittany) mind you will be able to find plenty of things for those 2 (insert subliminal message: send them to see brittany) rug rats to do this summer. Good luck

Brittany, you are too funny. I saw where they took little ceral boxes (enjoy eating them first). Take a large paper that will cover all the boxes, draw a family tree and glue on pictures. Cut the paper to fit boxes, so you have puzzle, then put it together to learn who is who in the family. Of course this could be a two sided puzzle.

Dress up day
Petting Zoo (line up stuffed animals, pet them and discuss facts about each animal)
Car Wash (wash matchbox cars - you might wash play dishes instead)
Dance in the Rain Day
Art Day (I have lots of art ideas)
Craft Day (buy craft stuff from Michael's/Hobby Lobby) they have great kits
Science (play with magnets, water activities, make volcanoes, grow beans, etc)
Make Puppets and have a play

good luck. if you need a break, you can send kids over here. though we might not be having as much fun as you have got planned!!!
